Presented at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1961, it succeeded the XK series. Production runs from 1961 to 1975, all models combined.
The evolutions and the modifications are numerous throughout the life of the model, to improve the performances, the safety, the comfort… one of the major changes. In 1975, the Type E gave way to the XJS. More than 70,000 examples of E-Type will be sold, thus constituting one of the biggest commercial successes of Jaguar. Its look and performance, which set it apart from other cars in the same segment, have today made it an automotive legend of those years.
The modifications concern the aesthetics as well as the mechanical part (widening of the track), but it is mainly the installation of the 5.3-liter V12 engine that characterizes this 3rd series.
